Clash of the Chocolates
*****Disclaimer - I am in no way affiliated with Aldi*****
Hi! My name is Scott, and welcome to the first blog post of the series! I am currently studying marketing, and have been tasked with creating my own blog, so I have decided to put Aldi's versions of name brands to the test, and share my experience.
For years now, Aldi have become well-known for not only their cheap prices, but also their alternative versions of name brand products. I have never been what some might call an “Aldi person”, however, I have decided to try and covert myself by comparing various different Aldi products to the product they are apparently replicating, and then decide whether or not the difference in product is worth the difference in price.
For the first post, I have decided to compare different chocolates from Aldi with the 'real' branded product, so lets dive right into it!
The first comparison I made was between the simple (but underrated) cadburys GIANT buttons (60p), and Aldi's 'Dairyfine Milk buttons' (33p). The two were very very different in taste, and I honestly think this would come down to your preference, as both were extremely tasty!! However, for the price I don't see why you wouldn't chose Aldi.
Onto the classic Mars 'snickers' , and Aldi's 'Dairyfine racer', and to get straight to the point, you literally cannot tell the difference between these two (other than the price £££), so if you are buying snickers you are literally throwing away money!
Next, comes the Kinder Bueno vs Aldi's 'Dairyfine Spirals' (Hazelnut flavour). For this comparison, the Spirals bar took it by a landslide. It tastes more like a Bueno than a Bueno does. It also only comes in single bars so in other words its better for the diet. Here the Bueno works out on average around 25p per single bar, whilst the Spiral comes out at 18p a bar.
Lastly, is Mars' 'Twix' vs Aldi's 'Dairyfine Jive'. Once again, Aldi have replicated a Mars classic, and have managed to achieve an almost perfect clone. Whilst the 'Jive' bar isn't much better than the Twix, it matches it almost exactly, and is cheaper at the same time!
